You've Already Been Prepared...Because God Said So
My clients are typically high-visibility women… in hiding.
I know them well…because they are like me.
They’re Brilliant. Called. Uncommon.
But the fear of being seen keeps them stuck.
And the pain of being unseen keeps them frustrated.
Last week, my husband and I decided to visit a Toastmasters event. We're both stepping into more speaking opportunities, so we figured it was time to get serious about sharpening the skill.
For the record, public speaking is my least favorite thing to do. But I care more about my calling and who I’m called to than I do about being comfortable.
We had no expectations. We showed up planning to observe.
But of course… we got pulled right in.
Before I knew it, I was invited to speak on the spot, and I was standing at the front of the room, surrounded by strangers.
They asked me one question.
And in true Alexis fashion, I politely asked to change the question.
I wasn’t sure if I made enough eye contact.
I don’t know all the stage tips and tricks.
But I know how to be authentic.
I know how to share my story.
At the end of the night, I won the Table Topics Award, although many in the room had been training and speaking for years.
That night reminded me:
Authenticity carries power.
And God’s preparation doesn’t always look like man’s process.
Lessons for the Prototype Woman
Stop trying to get ready when you’ve already been prepared.
You don’t need another certification, another degree, or another high-dollar course to begin what God has already placed on the inside of you.People want God minus the religious rhetoric.
I went to a non-religious meeting, I talked about my relationship with Jesus. No church jargon. Just truth. And that truth landed. You’re a disruptor, you can show up in any space, rewrite the rules, and add value.
You’ve worked so hard to learn the rules that at times you get stuck within them. For those being revealed in this season, you’re going to find yourself in unique spaces with unique opportunities to be the mouthpiece of God to those who are ready to hear.
Your Reminder
You don’t need to become someone.
You need to remember who you already are.
You’ve already been prepared.
Because God said so.
